Brooks’ Law is the adage that adding workforce to a late technology project makes it later.
Frederick Brooks popularised it in his 1975 book The Mythical Man-Month.
The law is still very much relevant today.
Why?
Because when you try to do more with less, or when you take on too much work in an attempt to please everyone, the result is that everything takes longer than it should.
So what does this all mean for a business?
It means that you should be careful about how much you want to do and take on because the more work you take on, the less time and effort will go into each piece.
You can end up with a jumbled mess that does not work properly because it was too rushed, or you could end up with nothing at all.
So what can you do about this?
Well, the best thing is to plan well.
If you want to expand your business and take on new clients, for example, make sure you spend some time planning and budgeting.
Look for ways you can get all of your work done without taking on any more than necessary.
